Off-grid applications represent an alternative market for ocean energy, or a useful stepping stone towards utility-scale ocean energy markets. In certain off-grid markets, ocean energy is already a cost-competitive energy source. Furthermore, developers can use these first experiences to validate their value proposition relative to conventional alternatives and also to accelerate the path to technology cost reduction.
